|Bret Smith, IDSA
Sr. Associate Dean of University College
Division of Academic and Student Affairs
Prior to taking his position at NC State, he served as the associate director of University College and the director of Interdisciplinary Studies at Auburn University, and as interim associate dean of Academic Affairs for the College of Architecture Design and Construction, where he oversaw undergraduate programs, curriculum development, academic advising, international programs and recruiting. During this time, he served as chair of the Auburn University Academic Advising Career Ladder Committee for two years. Professor Smith has a B.S. IED, an M.A. in English and an M.A. In Industrial Design, all from Purdue University.
Chair, University College Courses and Curriculum Committee
Jennifer serves as the Director of Academic Programs for the NC State Entrepreneurship Initiative. She also serves the Chair of the University College Courses and Curricula Committee (UC-CCC). In her role as UC-CCC Chair, Jennifer leads committee meetings and sets the agenda for the college committee, which is responsible for the creation and periodic review of the University College curricula including courses, minors, majors, and certificates, housed within University College to ensure continued benefit to the current student body.
Department Head, Health and Exercise Studies
Beth is the Head for the Department of Health and Exercise Studies, a department whose mission is to educate a globally-diverse NC State population regarding the benefits of living a healthy and physically active lifestyle by providing equal opportunities and professional preparation in sport, fitness, health, and recreation. The department’s general education program activity courses engage nearly every undergraduate student at the University, whether traditional or non-traditional, in person and online. Additionally, the department offers a variety of courses leading to the completion of one of five minors: Coaching Education, Health, Outdoor Leadership, Sports Science, and Dance.
Director, Advising Technology
Associate Dean, Executive Director of Arts NC State
Rich serves as the Executive Director of Arts NC State, which is comprised of the Crafts Center, the Dance Program, the Gregg Museum of Art and Design, the Music Department, NC State LIVE, and University Theatre. Arts NC State provides coursework, exhibitions, programming, outreach experiences and other opportunities to students of all majors as well as numerous community members.
|Dr. Holly Hurlburt
Assistant Dean, Executive Director for Academic Enrichment Program
Dr. Holly Hurlburt has published two books and several articles on women in the political sphere of Early Modern Venice and the Mediterranean. Prior to her arrival at NC State, Hurlburt was Professor of History, Director of the Chancellor’s Scholars Program, and Interim History Department Chair at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. In University College, she oversees and coordinates the Fellowship Advising Office, the First Year Inquiry Program, the Office of Undergraduate Research, and the University Honors and University Scholars Programs.
Director, Office of Undergraduate Courses, Curricula, and Academic Standards
Li directs the Office of Undergraduate Courses, Curricula, and Academic Standards, which serves the university through the facilitation of the course and curricular approval process. This involves coordination and facilitation of two Provost standing committees (UCCC and CUE) as well as work both administrative and academic units across campuses to consider matters related to undergraduate education at NC State.
|Dr. Dan Monek
Department Head, Music
Dr. Monek is a Professor of Music and Head of the Department of Music, which provides broad-based educational opportunities for NC State students. The department offers a variety of courses including a large selection of for-credit performance ensembles and many courses that may be taken to fulfill specific general education programs. The department also offers an Arts Entrepreneurship minor and a Music minor with multiple emphases.
Student Services Specialist and Coordinator, Global Perspectives Certificate
Kasey is responsible for scheduling University College courses, creating and sharing college stories and highlights, providing support to the First Year Inquiry Program, coordinating serval college committees including the college courses and curricula committee and college Outstanding Teacher Award committee, as well as acting as the main point of contact for general University College inquiries. Kasey also serves as the coordinator for the Global Perspectives Certificate, which acknowledges students for and encourages them to pursue globally focused interests both inside and outside of the classroom.
University Program Associate, Office of Undergraduate Courses, Curricula, and Academic Standards
Lexi coordinates operations and provides training as well as action review for the university through her work in the Office of Undergraduate Courses, Curricula, and Academic Standards, which serves the university through the facilitation of the course and curricular approval process. University Program Specialist for University College
Yvette manages communications, the University College newsletter and website, the promotion of college events, goals, and course scheduling. She provides account management related to First Year Inquiry Program and the Academic Enrichment Program. She also processes purchasing, travel, reimbursements, budgeting and PCard reconciliation for the Assistant Dean.
Administrative Support in Academic Advising Programs and Service and Exploratory Studies
Loi is an administrative assistant to the Director of Academic Advising and Assistant Dean of University College. She provides a wide range of operational support to the academic advisors in daily operations. Loi is responsible for all processes and procedures and is the liaison with finance, human resources, facilities, and security application technology.
Absence Verification Officer, Executive Assistant
Vickie serves as the Absence Verification Officer for NC State University. She is also a Senior Executive Assistant to the Senior Associate Dean for University College. Vickie is the past-chair of the GIBC Standing University Committee. She is an alumna of NC State and has worked in several different colleges during her tenture.
