About
University College provides interdisciplinary experiences, pathways to self-discovery and opportunities to hone passions — for every NC State student.
A College for the Entire University
University College is a different sort of college, and we were designed that way. We’re home to a truly interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree in music technology, and our diverse array of minors, courses, certificates, academic supports, high-impact experiences, enrichments and arts programs serve students in every college on campus. We’re the only college at NC State that enrolls every undergraduate student in at least two courses, and we enroll the second largest incoming class each year in the Exploratory Studies Program.
1 Major
The B.S. in music technology unites the arts and engineering to prepare students to develop innovative technologies for the music industry.
11 Minors
From dance to military studies to teamwork in interdisciplinary biomedical research, our minors provide experiential learning that often defies categorization.
7 Departments
We’re home to performing arts and technology, health and exercise studies and the three ROTC units, plus Exploratory Studies and the University Honors Program.
More than 130 faculty teach in our departments, and we partner with hundreds of faculty members in other colleges through the University Honors Program, the Office of Undergraduate Research and our interdisciplinary programs. Our departments include Performing Arts and Technology, Health and Exercise Studies, Aerospace Studies, Military Science and Naval Science. We also support faculty and staff across the institution with advising technology and guidance related to undergraduate courses and curriculum development.
And this is just scratching the surface of what we do.
Engaging the Whole Student
University College is the full-time college home for students in the music technology major and Exploratory Studies Program — but it’s also the second home for students in the Inter-College Transfer and University Honors programs. And even students who join a dance company, participate in ROTC or enroll in one of our minors find a supportive community within our college. We build connection and exploration into everything we teach, so you might meet your best friends in addition to receiving a first-rate education.
No matter which college you’re a part of, you can access many of our courses in the arts, health and exercise studies, military science or leadership to complement both your studies and your personal passions. You can also:
- take part in hands-on learning opportunities outside of the classroom;
- find funding to back your academic endeavors;
- connect with programs and activities that support your well-being;
- and prepare for a lifetime of learning and engaging with the world around you.
