Take 8 at State

We are encouraging each student at NC State to take eight credits of Health and Exercise Studies from our 100 and/or 200 level activity courses before graduation. Currently, students are required to take just two credits of health and exercise studies to graduate. We hope to motivate and encourage students to go beyond what’s required and truly make a commitment to physical fitness. Here’s our challenge to you: Be academically fit and physically fit when you leave NC State! Once you’ve completed your fourth class you’ll qualify to receive a free water bottle. After you’ve completed your eighth class, come to Carmichael Gym, room 1309 and claim your free t-shirt to commemorate your accomplishment!

Department of Performing Arts and Technology

The Department of Performing Arts and Technology has opportunities for direct student application as performers include many choral and instrumental ensemble courses. Registration in any ensemble is open to students with a disciplined interest in music. Auditions are scheduled during summer orientation, at the beginning of each semester, and by appointment with the conductor of the group.

The department offers a variety of courses, most of which may be taken to fulfill specific general education programs. Any course may be taken as a free elective. For more information on music courses, please check out the Undergraduate Catalog.

Exploratory Studies

Students may apply to become Resident Mentors for the Exploratory Studies Village. Resident Mentors are peer leaders in the village, doing programming in support of the program mission and building community. They also serve as teaching assistants for USC 101/102.
